Since it’s humble beginnings, this majestic 19 acre oasis, now known as the B.W. Social, has been a staple of the
Lower Saucon, carrying with it a rich and colorful history.
Developed in the mid-1730’s, it initially served as the Leith Family Homestead. During prohibition, the secluded nature of the plot made it a perfect location for bootleggers to maintain operations. In 1933, the space found new life, when it was purchased by the Beethoven Mannerchoir, a German-American singing ensemble. Dubbed the “Beethoven Waldheim,” during this era, the property was an epicenter of summer bliss, hosting a litany of activities which included: dances, live music, swimming, parties, weddings, and sporting events. In 1962, the club underwent renovations to add a rathskeller, picnic areas and a pavilion. Interestingly, according to local lore, the landmarks and memories are not all that remain of times gone by, as many visitors have reported experiencing what they perceive to be paranormal activity within the halls. In keeping with the traditions of the past, today’s B.W. Social aims to be a cultural hub, that celebrates and enriches the local community. Under its current ownership, the club has undergone numerous renovations, including a complete restoration of the original private pond and stone venue. It has also been expanded, to include a 10,000 square foot accessory building. It is home to Geisterhaus Pub.
